Department of Natural Sciences
Natural Sciences at Fordham
Interested in STEM at Lincoln Center?
The Department of Natural Sciences offers foundational courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, plus a wide range of upper-level electives such as Immunology, Pharmacology, and Animal Behavior. Whether you're preparing for graduate study, medical school, or research, our programs empower you to tailor your own career path.
The Department has recently expanded its offerings at FCLC. In addition to the established BS in Natural Sciences, students can now choose from two new BS degrees; Cell and Molecular Biology and Biology of Organisms and Ecosystems. We've also added two new minors: Health Sciences and Natural Sciences.
Choosing the Right Major
The Natural Sciences major is rigorous and broad, pairing required coursework in biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, data analysis, and calculus with upper-level electives spanning a wide range of biological and biochemical fields. Many Natural Sciences majors go on to become physicians, pursue other health professions, or continue to Master's or PhD programs in the sciences.
Cell and Molecular Biology majors focus on levels of organization from macromolecules to tissues. Alongside the same foundational coursework, most upper-level electives are drawn from genetics, molecular biology, developmental biology, and biochemistry. Like their Natural Sciences peers, many graduates pursue medicine, other health professions, or graduate study in the sciences.
Biology of Organisms and Ecosystems majors focus on levels of organization from tissues to populations. Alongside the same foundational coursework, most upper-level electives are drawn from ecology, physiology, biology of aging, and behavioral biology. Many graduates similarly go on to medicine, other health professions, or graduate study in the sciences.
Two New Minors in Natural Sciences
The Health Sciences Minor offers a structured, pre-health curriculum designed to meet the prerequisite requirements of medical, dental, nursing, and allied health professional schools. It consolidates key coursework into a single credential that strengthens professional school applications, giving students both the breadth of biological knowledge and the depth of human-systems focus that admissions committees value.
The Natural Sciences Minor offers a broad, interdisciplinary foundation in biology, chemistry, and physics. Designed to complement a wide range of STEM and non-STEM majors, it builds scientific literacy, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving skills. This minor is well suited for students pursuing careers in education, science communication, public policy, or environmental advocacy.
The websites for the new majors and minors are currently under construction. Please feel free to contact Martin Di Grandi (LL 813A; 212-636-7141) with any questions
Mary G. Hamilton Research Symposium
Symposium for Undergraduate Research
Each year, the Department of Natural Sciences at Fordham College at Lincoln Center highlights the outstanding accomplishments of our undergraduate students through this symposium, where our majors present the results of their research.
The symposium will take place November 12th, 2026 from 11:30AM - 12:45PM.
