Hal S. Shaftel

Adjunct Professor of Law

Hal, an experienced trial lawyer, is a shareholder in the New York office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP. Hal is a graduate of Yale College and Yale Law School, where he was an editor of the Yale Law Review. During his career as a trial lawyer, Hal has handled a diverse array of complex commercial litigation matters and tried jury and bench trials in federal and state courts across the country. He also has argued appeals before the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Seventh, and Ninth Circuits, as well as New York state appellate courts and the Delaware Supreme Court. His experience includes proceedings before governmental agencies, including the SEC and the FTC, as well as many domestic and international arbitration proceedings.

Hal co-authored the “Discovery Strategy” chapter in Business and Commercial Litigation in Federal Courts (Thomson Reuters 2022). He also authored numerous litigation practice articles in various publications, including the New York Law Journal, Corporate Counsel Business Journal, Buyout Insider, Aspatore Thought Leadership Series (Thomson Reuters), and VCR Venture Capital Review. He has participated in many professional speaking engagements/panels and has been quoted for comment on litigation-related topics by various media, including Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, New York Post, Law360, CBS News, and Fox News.
