Guillermo Severiche is Senior Lecturer of Spanish and Language Program Director in the Department of Languages and Cultures. His teaching and research bring together language education, creative writing, migration, cultural identity, and socially engaged and decolonial approaches to language and literature.
Severiche is also a fiction writer, playwright, and cultural organizer. His fiction, essays, and plays have appeared in publications and venues in the United States, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Chile, and his plays have received staged readings in New York, Orlando, and Madrid. He is the author of the novels El agua viene de noche (2021) and Cochabamba (2026).
In New York, Severiche founded EN CONSTRUCCIÓN, a literary reading series that amplifies the work of Latin American writers based in the city. He also serves as Literary Manager at IATI Theater, a bilingual Latinx theater company in Manhattan. His cultural work focuses on creating spaces for Latin American and Spanish-language literature and performance in New York.
Severiche holds a B.A. in Modern Literatures from Universidad Nacional de Cuyo in Argentina, an M.A. and Ph.D. from Louisiana State University, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing in Spanish from New York University.
