Conceptual Foundations of Theatre Design

Santiago Orjuela-Laverde is a Colombian scenic and film designer based in NYC. He completed his MFA in Design for Stage and Film at NYU Tisch. His recent work includes HAMLET (NYU-Grad Acting), RICHARD III, (Columbia University School of the Arts), THE GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT, a new play by Rinne Groff (NYU-Tisch), GO GET THE AXE (Urban Stages+FIG Productions), THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA (NYU-Grad Acting), MEASURE FOR MEASURE (Fairleigh Dickinson University). Recent associate and assisting credits include WHITE NOISE (The Public Theater), DON GIOVANNI (Juilliard’s Peter Jay Sharp Theater) and SALOME (M-34/Irondale Center).

Santiago is also a member of dots, a design collective based in New York City, specializing in designing environments for narratives, experiences, and performances. Recent credits: PUBLIC OBSCENITIES (SoHo Rep/NAATCO, Feb 2023); DARK DISABLED STORIES (Bushwick Starr/The Public Theater, Feb 2023); YOU WILL GET SICK (Roundabout) RINALDO (Minnesota Opera); LA TRAVIATA (Wolf Trap Opera); WHILE YOU WERE PARTYING (SoHo Rep); The Green Veil, a TV mini-series starring John Leguizamo; and Nations Lending, a national commercial starring Dennis Rodman.
