Meet the Vice Dean for Graduate Education

Ann Gaylin, PhD, joined Fordham University in 2022 and has served first as the Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) and currently as the Vice Dean for Graduate Education, Arts and Sciences. In her role as vice dean, Dr. Gaylin leads the day-to-day operations of the GSAS, ensuring a transformative learning experience for all graduate students. She oversees policies and procedures; enrollment management, admissions, and recruitment; distinguished fellowships and scholarships; and student professional development. She works in close partnership  with the faculty of Arts and Sciences and fellow vice deans to advance the Dean of Arts and Sciences' vision.

Dr. Gaylin holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Princeton University. She currently holds an appointment as an associate professor in Fordham's Department of English. A scholar of 19th- and 20th-century English and French literature and culture, she is the author of Eavesdropping in the Novel from Austen to Proust (Cambridge 2002).

Before joining Fordham, Dr. Gaylin served as Associate Dean for Graduate Education at Yale University (2017–2022). Her extensive leadership experience in higher education also includes associate dean positions at Harvard University and Brown University, as well as service as a program officer at the American Council of Learned Societies.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Gaylin was a faculty member in the Department of Literature at Yale University (1994–2005), where she served as Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Literature Major. She has taught a wide range of literature courses throughout her career at Yale, Princeton, and Brown.
