LLM Eligibility

Applicants to the LL.M. program generally must hold a J.D. (Juris Doctor) from an ABA-approved U.S. law school or a first law degree (J.D., LL.B., or the equivalent) from a foreign law school or university at the time of matriculation. Those who are admitted to practice law in any foreign jurisdiction are generally also eligible to apply.

The admissions committee considers many factors in its decisions for both foreign-trained and U.S. applicants, including the following:

  • Academic performance and class standing
  • Occupational and law-related experience and career plans
  • Letters of reference
  • English-language ability, as evidenced by performance on the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test
  • Extracurricular activities
