Graduate Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy

Graduate Student using Mac

Fordham University has established minimum standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) toward a degree that must be maintained. Both GPA and the time frame in which the student completes the program of study are considered. Failure to maintain these standards can result in a student being placed on academic probation, suspended or dismissed.

In general, students not making SAP are ineligible for federal financial aid. SAP is monitored by the Office of Student Financial Services at the completion of each academic year and is regulated by the Federal Government.

All academic progress decisions may be appealed by submitting the Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Form for Graduate Students to the dean of the college. The appeal must be made within two weeks of notification. Extenuating circumstances, such as a death in the immediate family, illness, etc., should be included in the documentation provided to the academic office. The decision of the dean shall be final.
