POSITION: Information Security and Assurance Assistant

SUPERVISOR: Senior Director of IT Security and Assurance

SUMMARY:

Information Security and Assurance is responsible for developing and implementing an information security program to protect University communications, systems, and assets from internal and external threats. The division oversees IT risk management, security policies, awareness, incident response, compliance monitoring, and security architecture.

The Information Security and Assurance Assistant will support the division in meeting its goals and priorities by performing a variety of tasks related to IT risk management, security operations, and assurance activities. The Assistant will work closely with the IT Risk Analysts and IT Security staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a registered full-time Fordham student in good academic standing.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week.
  • Must be able to work on the Rose Hill campus.
  • Must uphold, enforce, and abide by all University policies.
  • Strong writing and data entry skills required.
  • Preference for students majoring in Computer Science or with an IT concentration.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 apps, Google Workspace apps, web design (HTML or WYSIWYG), and familiarity with TCP/IP, Visio, and Excel is desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with documentation of policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Support data entry and reconciliation across systems of record.
  • Maintain and update IT Security and Assurance blog content, including security and privacy awareness materials.
  • Conduct research and evaluations of applications/services; develop feature comparison matrices.
  • Record and track IT risks and security incidents, such as compromised accounts, email threats, and abuse reports.
  • Assist with compliance audits and first-level compliance monitoring.
  • Provide support for forensic analysis and fact gathering.
  • Assist with vulnerability assessments and penetration testing of applications, services, networks, and servers.
  • Support IT Security tools such as SIEM, IPS, Netflow, email gateway protection, and DLP tools.
  • Modify and maintain web pages.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION: $16.50 per hour
