Common majors paired with the pre-law program include political science, international studies, history, and English. However, the American Bar Association does not recommend any particular undergraduate major to prepare for a legal education. Research, writing, and analytical skills are some of the primary skills needed in law school, so your adviser might encourage you to take courses that will help you develop and refine these skills.

You’ll be able to enroll in the Pre-Law Symposium, where you’ll learn about careers in the law and the elements of a strong law school application. Plus, hear from guest speakers including partners at major law firms, high-ranking government officials, and deans of law schools. You can also join student clubs like the pre-law society and the mock trial team.
Plus, you can connect with alumni through the Fordham Mentoring Program to receive one-on-one guidance and advice for your legal career.
With New York City as your college town, you’ll have access to legal internships with our community partners, government agencies, and top law firms.

By participating in the pre-law program, you’ll be uniquely qualified to apply to the 3-3 program with Fordham’s School of Law, allowing you to complete both undergraduate and law school degrees in six years. We also offer a pre-law institute during the summer that will help introduce you to law school and legal careers.

At Fordham, you’ll use AI as a tool to enhance your learning. Our program will equip you with the skills to navigate the ever-changing landscape of AI in the workforce. As part of the pre-law program, you could conduct research into how AI has affected legislation around the world or learn how to spot AI-hallucinations that have been popping up in court filings across the country. You'll learn about the need for responsible AI use, and be prepared for careers in AI policy, strategy, and more.
You’ll also be able to earn credentials and paid micro-internships through IBM SkillsBuild’s Getting Started with AI course. All Fordham students and graduates have access to AI training through RamConnect, the University’s alumni and experiential learning platform.
Above all, you’ll learn skills that can’t be replaced by AI, such as critical thinking, creativity, emotional intelligence, and integrity.
