Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching and VMWare/OnTheHub

Fordham University's Computer and Information Science Department is a subscriber to Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching (formerly called several names such as Microsoft Imagine/MSDN Academic Alliance Software Lending Program for Students and Faculty/Dreamspark). This provides selected software for download and in Azure, free of charge, for students taking CS courses in which that software plays a role. Create an account at the Azure Dev Tools for Teaching page. You can view all of the Azure cloud options that allow you to get a $200 credit to use within 12 months, and some that are always free.
The partial lists of downloadable software includes:
- Access 2016
- Hyper-V Server 2019
- Machine Learning Server
- Microsoft R Server
- Project Professional 2019
- SharePoint Server 2019
- SQL Server 2019 Developer
- Visio Professional 2019
- Windows 10
- Windows Server 2019 Datacenter/Standard/Essentials
The Office suite is no longer available, however, students get free access to Office 365 via My Apps. Adjuncts and lecturers can use the free Microsoft Education Office 365 option. Note that offline editing of existing documents is available.
CIS also purchased the ability to download most versions of VMWare for free including Fusion for Mac, Workstation for Windows and vSphere. This requires you to have an @fordham.edu address and to fill out the OnTheHub form to request an account. Once you click the Send button, a request will be sent to our administrator. When the account request is granted, you will receive an email with directions to complete your registration. Other heavily discounted software is also available.
