Three Students Celebrate Graduation

Congratulations on graduating from Fordham University! Now that your studies are done, many international students chose to stay in the U.S. to work in their major area of study.

If you continue your stay in the U.S. after graduation with your F-1 visa, there are some very important things to know and regulation you must follow in order to legally stay within the country.

Post-Optional Practical Training (OPT)

In order to qualify for F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT), you will need to first review the general information and requirements regarding OPT. Second, please review the Maintaining Your Status on OPT section within this site. It contains important information about maintaining your status as well as information about traveling while on Post-Completion OPT.

Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics

F-1 students who have completed bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in certain Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics fields may be eligible for a one-time 24-month extension of post-completion OPT. Learn more about the STEM Extension.

The Office for International Services hosted a "Life After F-1" webinar on Wednesday, November 13. Led by attorneys from Goldstein and Cheung LLP, this session explored important pathways after F-1 status, including options for immigrant and non-immigrant visas, H-1B visas, and permanent residency.
