DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH
Fordham English
Immerse yourself in the arts of attention: reading, writing, and conversation.
When you join Fordham English, you are joining one of the most dynamic intellectual communities on campus. You’ll take engaging, thoughtful courses, where you’ll learn about histories of literature and rhetoric and hone your critical, creative, and professional writing skills; attend exciting events with eminent contemporary writers and scholars; and have the opportunity to connect to the unparalleled community of readers, writers, and publishers in New York City.
Our diverse courses support a shared vision:
- To promote and invigorate the arts of attention: reading, writing, and conversation.
- To foster love and knowledge of literature, texts, and their archives across cultures, periods, and media.
- To build understanding about how words, language, and rhetoric shape the world and how the world shapes them.
- To teach all students in inclusive and accessible ways.
- To create a culture of support for students in their intellectual, creative, and professional development.
- To encourage enjoyment and pleasure in the study of English.
We offer a major in English, a creative writing concentration, three minors, an M.A., and a fully-funded Ph.D.
