Wormser Competition

The 2020 I. Maurice Wormser Memorial Moot Court Competition is the second of two annual competitions to determine which students will compose the Fordham Law Moot Court Board for the upcoming year. For this competition, students are required to brief and argue two corporate law issues. This year's issues were, first, what standard a reviewing court should apply when determining whether an insurance provider may deny coverage to a policyholder or his beneficiary because a preexisting condition contributed to a loss, and second, whether patients and insurance providers adequately allege proximate causation under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act when they argue they would not have paid for a vaccine if its manufacturer had disclosed a known safety risk.

This year's competition welcomed twenty-four new members to the Fordham Law Moot Court Board. The final round of oral arguments took place on October 13, 2020, at 7:00pm. The presiding bench included Judge Denny Chin of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, Justice John Couriel of the Florida Supreme Court, and Judge Gerald Lebovits of the New York State Supreme Court. Congratulations to our best oralist, Edward McLaughlin, and our best brief winners Stephen Self and Avery Golombek! Congratulations as well to our other finalists, Roseanne Harris, Mark Zichelli, Jr., and John Planamento!
