Federal Direct PLUS Parent Loans
Parents of dependent undergraduate students may be eligible for the Federal Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS), subject to credit approval through the U.S. Department of Education.
To qualify for a Parent PLUS loan, the student must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours. An approved parent can borrow up to the total Cost of Attendance (COA), minus any financial aid and other resources received by the student.
Additionally, parent borrowers have the option to defer all payments until the student completes their degree program. If this option is selected, interest will be capitalized and added to the principal at the time of repayment.
PLUS Loan Fee Calculator
For PLUS Loans disbursed between October 1, 2020, and October 1, 2027, a 4.228% origination fee is deducted from each disbursement.
The origination fee is charged by the U.S. Department of Education for each federal student loan you receive. It is calculated as a percentage of the total loan amount you are borrowing and is deducted proportionally from each disbursement of your loan.
To determine the amount you will receive after the origination fee—or the amount you need to request—use the loan calculator provided.
