2016-2017 Mission Priority Examen

During the 2016-2017 academic year, Fordham University participated in a Mission Priority Examen at the request of the Superior General of the Society of Jesus to consider how effectively we are accomplishing our mission as a Jesuit university and how we may be able to improve in the years to come.

In a process of consultation among a cross-section of the university, we considered how Fordham embodies seven characteristics appropriate to Jesuit institutions that were articulated by a task force created by the AJCU presidents and the Jesuit Conference USA Board (US Jesuit Provincials). We submitted Fordham’s self-study that included reflections on the seven characteristics as well as a set of four priorities to be accomplished within the next five years.

Characteristic 1: Leadership’s Commitment to Mission
Characteristic 2: The Academic Life
Characteristic 3: A Catholic, Jesuit Campus Culture
Characteristic 4: Service
Characteristic 5: Service to the Local Church
Characteristic 6: Jesuit Presence
Characteristic 7: Integrity

2017 Mission Priorities

The process culminated in a visit in April 2017 by a delegation of faculty and administrative peers from four AJCU institutions--Fairfield, Georgetown, Santa Clara, and Seattle Universities--who recommended that the Society of Jesus reaffirm its partnership with Fordham University.
