Speaker: Dr. Vandana Chaudry is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at the City University of New York, College of Staten Island. She earned her Ph.D. in Social Work and Disability Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her areas of research pertain to disability in the global south, neoliberal governance, development, and culturally competent practices.

Speaker: Dr. Michelle Ballan is a Professor at Stony Brook School of Social Welfare. She earned her Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. Her areas of research are prevention and treatment interventions for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families; sexuality, intimate partner violence, and direct practice for individuals with disabilities; bioethics; disability studies; human rights and social justice for underserved populations.

This seminar was jointly organized with the School of Social Service Visiting Scholar seminar.

Speaker: Marilyn Bisberg is an Associate Professor at the Fordham Graduate School of Education. Her teaching interests and expertise are in the areas of behavior management strategies, emotional development of young children, attachment and separation, underserved children/families, and assessment.

Abstract: We want to make sure that each student in our class learns. It takes some planning on our part to teach our diverse learners. This seminar will take a look at ideas, strategies, and requirements that work… and some that don't work.
