  • Mathias Klang is an Associate Professor who enjoys studying surveillance, platform power, and digital rights (in other words, all the inventive ways technology gets used to keep tabs on people, and the occasional heroic attempt to resist). His path to the Bronx ran from a childhood in Malta through a doctorate at the University of Gothenburg, with stops at the Swedish School of Information and Library Science, the London School of Economics, UMass Boston, Penn’s Annenberg School, and the University of Bergen as a Fulbright scholar. These days he is curious about how monitoring quietly settles into everyday intimate life, and why we so cheerfully accept arrangements we would never agree to if anyone actually asked. He lives in Philadelphia with his partner, a fellow media scholar, and their dog Syrsa, who has firm opinions about surveillance but has not yet published them.
