Department: Center for Community Engaged Learning 

The Center for Community Engaged Learning welcomes proposals for faculty-led initiatives in order to promote an integrated and sustainable culture of community engaged learning at Fordham and to respond to the institution’s mission. Such initiatives include, but are not limited to speaker series, workshops, faculty collaborations, archival research projects, and faculty-led immersion programs and trips, and student success programs. typical initiatives are funded in the range of $2,000 to $10,000.

Distinguished Research Award (DRA) 

Department: Office of Research 

The Office of the Provost, the Office of Research, the University Research Council and the Research Deans’ Council are now accepting nominations and self-nominations for the Fordham University Distinguished Research Award (DRA). DRA is designed to recognize tenured and tenure-track faculty members who have produced outstanding research, scholarship and creative practice accomplishments within the past three years (January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022).The award consists of an engraved plaque and an honorarium of $1,000.There are five categories of the award, covering: 1) science and mathematics; 2) social sciences; 3) humanities; 4) interdisciplinary studies; and 5) research in any of these fields by a junior faculty member.


Faculty Research Abroad Program 2023 

Department: Office of Research 

We are pleased to announce the Fordham University Faculty Research Abroad Program (FRAP) 2023 designed to facilitate the development of research collaborations between Fordham University and international Jesuit universities or entities.The initiative is an individual faculty-led research abroad program rather than the institutional FRAP programming organized by the University in previous years. Participating faculty are not required to travel abroad.The program will select Fordham faculty to participate in the program during the summer of 2023.


Institutional Grant Preparation Fund 

Department: Office of Research 

Proposals are solicited for support for the Institutional Grant Preparation. The fund will support professional development activities by a tenured or tenure-track faculty member who is preparing a proposal for an institutional grant. Funded preparation activities include data collection, literature review writing, meeting with program officers, participation in grant workshops, grant writing, external partnership collaboration, travel, and employing student assistants.The fund will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The awardee will be eligible to receive up to $5,000 per academic year. The award can be shared by more than one PI, but the maximum dollar amount for one project is limited to $5,000.


Large Proposal Grant Writing Fund 

Department: Office of Research 

The Fund will support professional grant proposal writing services for tenured and tenure-track faculty members who are preparing a proposal for a large grant with a total budget of over $1 million in direct costs. The proposal needs to provide indirect costs to the University with priority given to applications for grants that provide full indirect cost return at Fordham’s federally negotiated rate. Up to three applications will be funded per academic year at $10,000 each on a first-come-first-served basis. Awarded funds will be paid directly to the grant writer or grant writing service. Faculty members may not apply to the Fund more than once per academic year. Awarded faculty (PIs) will be responsible for selecting the writing service providers. Applications for this fund must be submitted a minimum of 4 months in advance of the grant proposal submission deadline. All faculty members requesting support must commit to a successful submission of their grant proposal. 


MBPA (Manuscript and Book Publication Award) 

Department: Office of Research 

The Manuscript and Book Publication Award (MBPA) is designed to assist tenured and tenure-track faculty in publishing books and manuscripts. Applications for the MBPA will only be accepted after the completed manuscript has successfully completed the peer review process and has been formally accepted by a publisher. Funding preference will be given to publications submitted to university press publishers. The MBPA funds may be used for the author’s mandatory contribution to the cost of book and manuscript publication, such as publication subsidies, professional indexing, editorial work, digital or interactive content, image and map reproduction, color plates and photos, permissions and cover art. All tenure and tenure-track faculty are eligible to apply for a MBPA of up to $2,000 to assist them with fees associated with the preparation of scholarly manuscripts or creative artwork for publication. The level of overall funding will be dependent on the University's financial situation. 


Professional Development Funds & STEM Research Grants 

Department: Office of Research

Professional Development Funds: Up to $5,500 as professional development funds for external grant proposal preparation or in support of research and non-sponsored research projects. The funds will be available from July 1, 2023 to April 1, 2024. 

STEM Research: Up to $7,500 in support of STEM research of which no less than $2,000 must be utilized to cover Fordham student research assistant hourly fees during the summer, i.e. between July 1, 2023 and August 31, 2023 only. The $2,000 may not be repurposed for another expenditure. 


Sponsored Research Travel Grant Program 

Department: Office of Research 

The Sponsored Research Travel Grant program is targeted at assisting faculty in preparing an external funding proposal. These Travel Grants will be available to assist tenured and tenure-track faculty members who are preparing or developing external grant, fellowship and scholarship proposals.Travel funds may be used to support travel related costs, such as meeting with program officers in Washington, D.C., or participating in grant, fellowship and scholarship workshops on proposal preparation. Requests for the External Funding Preparation Travel Grant may be sent via email to Dr. George Hong at [email protected]. Requests should include the applicant's name, a brief explanation of the use of the funds, and the Request for Proposal (RFP) or information about the targeted programs. Grants will be awarded ;on a first-come, first-served basis; faculty members will be eligible to receive up to $500 per academic year toward the cost of their travel expenses.The number of grants and the amounts awarded for this program may be adjusted periodically based on need and availability of funds. The grants will reimburse faculty for specific travel costs relating to proposal preparation. Once the travel is completed, awardees may access their Travel Grant funds by submitting the following documents in hard copy ONLY: 

  1. The appropriate and completed Fordham Accounts Payable paperwork, with everything but budget numbers and authorizing signatures.
  2. Original receipts, invoices, and proof of payment.

Connecting Research to Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)

Department: Office of Research 

To encourage Fordham faculty to develop research projects with partners abroad through the use of (COIL) *Collaborative Online International Learning in new or existing courses to support and promote faculty-student research collaborations, global research, international teaching and learning, and the teacher-scholar model.

The Humanities and Social Sciences ONLINE Network, based out of the History Department of Michigan State University, provides information on funding, jobs and publications. 


The National Health Council assisting NIH researchers 

The National Health Council, with assistance from the National Institutes of Health, created this website to assist NIH researchers who received a good score on an application, but did not receive funding, find other avenues to fund their research. Investigators register, upload information about their unfunded proposals, and sponsors registered on the same site can review with an eye towards funding them.
