Dr. Alan D’Aiello Jr. is an Advanced Lecturer in the Department of Communication and Media Studies at Fordham University, where he teaches courses in digital technology, media culture, communication theory, and the social implications of emerging technologies. His academic lecturing explores the intersections of technology, culture, power, and society, with particular attention to how digital technologies transform the relationships between individuals, spaces, institutions, and the public sphere. Central to his teaching is the belief that media literacy requires not simply understanding how technologies function, but examining whose interests they serve, whose voices they privilege, and what responsibilities accompany their use.
Dr D’Aiello’s scholarly interests are grounded in critical media and cultural studies, particularly the ways technological systems shape social relationships, identity, representation, and access to information. His research examines questions of platform governance, digital inequality, surveillance, censorship, and the political and ethical dimensions of emerging technologies. He is especially interested in the evolving boundaries between public and private life in digital environments, the social consequences of algorithmic decision-making, and the tensions between technological innovation, institutional authority, and individual agency. -
