Rose F. DiMartino ‘79, and Karen Sue Smith
DiMartino practiced for more than 35 years at the international law firm of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, where she was a partner in the nationally recognized asset management group until her retirement in 2019. She serves on the board of trustees of commodity-based exchange-traded funds and closed-end, healthcare-focused funds managed by Aberdeen Asset Management. DiMartino is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Fordham University, a member of the advisory board of St. John’s Law School, where she also serves as chair of the Alumnae Leadership Council, and an advisory member of the mission committee of St. John’s University. DiMartino has been a member of St. Ignatius Loyola parish in Manhattan since 1995 and is a founding member of its LGBTQ ministry.
DiMartino, who earned a BA in religion from Catholic University, an MA in theology from Fordham University, and a JD from St. John’s University in Queens, lives in New York City with her spouse, Karen Sue Smith.
For nearly 30 years, Karen Sue Smith shaped the media content (magazines, books, videos, and websites) of three award-winning Catholic publications: as editorial director of America, the national Jesuit review of faith and culture; as editor of CHURCH, the journal for pastors and parish staff published by the National Pastoral Life Center; and as associate editor of Commonweal, an intellectual lay Catholic journal of opinion. She also served as a consultant to the Catholic Health Association of the United States. For four and a half years prior, she was a partner at Koinonia Farm in Americus, Georgia. Smith holds an MA in theology from the University of Notre Dame and an M.Div. from Harvard Divinity School.
