COVID-19 Policies

A Safe Return to Campus
The health and safety of Fordham’s students, faculty, and staff remain top priority in our on-going operating plans. We continue to follow a series of health protocols to mitigate risk and promote the safety of the learning environment. These protocols include the following:

  • Hazard elimination, which is aimed at eliminating risk via vaccine and testing requirements; robust screening; and contact tracing to ensure that people carrying the virus and their close contacts do not come to campus. As part of this process, you will be required to participate in a daily VitalCheck screening as outlined below.
  • Engineering controls, such as improvements to HVAC systems and air circulation, to mitigate risk.
  • Administrative controls, which help protect our community with behavioral changes that promote social distancing and reshape the way we work and study.
  • Personal protective equipment, such as face coverings, which will be provided to students as a critical component of risk mitigation. Those who are not fully vaccinated will be required to wear a face covering at all times in all common, public areas, except in areas designated for eating. Fully vaccinated people are no longer required to wear masks outdoors while on campus.

Mandatory Student VitalCheck Screening Program
The University has partnered with VitalCheck for its health screening program to help identify anyone in the Fordham community who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. Participation in VitalCheck is required to access campus.

Here is how the VitalCheck process works:

1. Once you have submitted the vaccine or testing information, you will be registered with VitalCheck and begin to receive daily notifications to self-certify your health. The first email will come from VitalCheck Patient Support, The first email will come from VitalCheck Patient Support, You will be asked to respond to a series of questions related to your possible exposure to COVID-19. Once you attest to having none of the above conditions each day, you will receive the link to a dated color-coded clearance QR code you can open and display on your smartphone. The system has also been integrated into Fordham ID Card Readers so your clearance will be signaled through the standard process of tapping your Fordham ID to the readers as you enter campus.  You may be asked to display the QR code at various locations inside the campus such as classrooms or offices.
You can customize the specific time of day, as well as the delivery method (text or email) of your daily notification by referring to your VitalCheck email.
Please note that you are required to self-certify daily, including weekends and holidays. If you do not self-certify daily, you may be logged out of your account. If you do not receive a notification on a given day, you can use a link from a previous day.

2. If you are not immediately cleared by the VitalCheck daily health screening assessment, VitalCheck will send a registration link to your smartphone and your email to schedule a telehealth clearance appointment with one of its physicians prior to your return to campus.

The VitalCheck telehealth physician may advise you of the next steps to follow which may include a recommendation and prescription to test you for COVID-19 at an authorized location or to quarantine for a period of time.  This screening program utilizes your health insurance and you may be billed for a copay according to your health insurer's COVID-19 coverage for the telehealth appointment with a physician. Please note that copays may be waived for these COVID-19 related visits; please consult your insurance plan.

You may also contact your personal healthcare provider instead of the VitalCheck telehealth provider.
