Student Technology Checklist

For Students

Overview

Make sure you’ve got the technology you need before you arrive on campus:

 ☑️

Make sure you can access the WiFi network

Fordham WiFi only supports 5 GHz wireless. For full details about available networks and supported devices visit the Access the WiFi Network page

 ☑️

Remove peer-to-peer file sharing programs

Peer-to-peer file sharing programs are prohibited from being installed or run on your computer while you are connected to Fordham’s WiFi.

 ☑️

Bring a USB cable for your personal printer

The Fordham WiFi blocks printers from connecting to personal computers. Bring a USB cable to connect your printer to your computer. Public printers are available in all residence halls, labs, and libraries.

 ☑️

Consider bringing an ethernet cable to connect your game system

Each dorm room is equipped with one ethernet jack per resident. If you prefer maximum connection stability while playing on your Xbox or PlayStation, you may want to bring an ethernet cable to establish a hardwired connection.

 ☑️

Explore free academic software

Fordham provides a number of free software programs to support your coursework. Many of them can be accessed from the Portal. Log in to fordham.edu > My Apps:

  • Microsoft Office
  • Blackboard
  • Google Workspace, with unlimited Google Drive storage
  • Zoom

For a full list of software offerings, go to fordham.edu/software

 ☑️

Enroll another device with Duo

Duo is Fordham’s multi-factor authentication (MFA) partner. Chances are, you've already set this up. It is highly recommended that you enroll a second device, like a tablet, as a backup. To add another device or change a current device, click "Add a New Device" on the Duo authentication prompt while logging in.

 ☑️

Setup Your Fordham ID Card

You will need your Fordham ID card from the moment you arrive on campus. We have two different types of ID cards. A physical card or an electronic card on your mobile device. You will need to upload a photo to the portal and choose which type of ID you would like before you arrive.

We're here to help you with technology. The Office of Information technology's website can answer many questions about technology: fordham.edu/IT. For help with technology, contact the IT Service Desk: 718-817-3999.
