Message from the CRO and Associate Provost for Research

Dear Fordham Community,

Despite the exceptional uncertainty of our times, Fordham faculty, students, and administrators have made remarkable research strides over the past six months. Here are some key highlights:

  1. Outstanding External Grants
    • From July 1 to December 31, 2024, Fordham secured $20,418,439 in external grants—a 13% increase compared to the same period in FY 2024.
    • Faculty grants alone saw an impressive 58% growth, totaling $13,023,520 for the same six-month period.
  2. Fordham has joined the AI Alliance
    • We are pleased to announce that Fordham has accepted IBM's invitation to join the global AI Alliance. Fordham University's membership in the Skills & Education focus area will allow members of Fordham's academic community to partner with other academics, industry leaders, and researchers both in the U.S. and around the world. For more information, please see this newsletter article.
  3. Expanding Research Collaborations with IBM
    • We strengthened our partnership with IBM through a research field trip and joint research forum at the Watson Research Lab in October, 2024.
    • As part of Research Day on April 28, we will host a Fordham-IBM research forum featuring talks by the 2024 program Research Fellows and Research Interns.
    • Djallel Bouneffouf, a senior research scientist at IBM Research will deliver a keynote at the International Conference on Im/migration, AI and Social Justice on March 10th at Fordham.
  4. Organizing an International Conference on Im/migration, AI and Social Justice
    • This conference will address critical issues at the intersection of im/migration and AI, as viewed through a social justice lens.
    • Co-organized by Fordham and Sophia University (Japan), and co-sponsored by Fordham faculty-driven research groups and administrative units, it will provide a dynamic platform for impactful research.
  5. Global Research with International Jesuit Universities
    • Fordham has selected 14 faculty members to conduct joint research projects across eight countries in the spring break and summer of 2025.
    • Their work will result in joint conference presentations, publications, and grant proposals, further strengthening Fordham’s global research partnerships.
