Renato Cerqueira

Renato Cerqueira is director of the PUC-Behring Institute of Artificial Intelligence at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. He served as senior research manager at IBM Research Brazil, where he helped establish IBM’s Brazilian research center and led the knowledge-centric systems group advancing human-AI co-creation. Previously, he served as professor of informatics at PUC-Rio and led distributed systems research at Tecgraf/PUC-Rio. He holds a PhD (2000), MSc (1996), and computer engineering degree, all from PUC-Rio. His research spans AI systems, neuro-symbolic AI, and knowledge representation.
