Christine A. Walsh, M.D., TMC ’69

Christine A. Walsh, M.D., TMC ’69, is a pediatric cardiologist at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and professor emerita at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She co-founded the Montefiore-Einstein Center for CardioGenetics, the first such multidisciplinary clinic in the tristate area to care for both adults and children of a family that has suffered the unexpected loss of an infant, child, or young adult. She is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology, and she is a fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has been included in New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors” list, American Health’s “Best Doctors in America” list, and the Castle Connolly’s Guides “The Best Doctors in the New York Metro Area” and “America’s Top Doctors.” U.S. News and World Report included her among the top 1% of pediatric cardiologists in America. She is the mother of fellow panelist Kathleen Walsh-Spoonhower, M.D. Together, they are the first pair of mother-daughter pediatric cardiologists in the U.S.

Christine graduated from Thomas More College of Fordham University and the Yale University School of Medicine. She did her internship and residency in pediatrics at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Her fellowship in pediatric cardiology was at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, and she was an National Institutes of Health (NIH) postdoctoral research trainee in cardiac electrophysiology and pharmacology. She was also co-investigator for an NIH-funded project: Ethical and Social Implications of Genetic Testing in the Case of Unexpected Death.   

At the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she is a professor emerita, Christine has received the Lewis M. Fraad Award for Excellence in Teaching and has been named a Master Teacher. She was also elected to the Leo M. Davidoff Society for distinguished teachers, and she served as co-chair of the medical school committee on admissions for 19 years.  

Christine has held leadership roles in several professional organizations, including president of the Pediatric Cardiology Society of Greater New York and president of the Association of Yale Alumni in Medicine. She was an executive officer of the Association of Yale Alumni Board of Governors, and she has received the Yale School of Medicine Distinguished Alumni Service Award. She is a founding member of both the Velo-Cardio-Facial Syndrome Educational Foundation and the Rachel Cooper Foundation. Christine is also a member of the Fordham University Science Council.
