Academic and Research Publication Award
The Academic and Research Publication Award (ARPA), formerly the MBPA, provides financial assistance to faculty for publishing scholarly books, articles, and manuscripts.
I. Eligibility & Restrictions
- Who: All tenured and tenure-track faculty.
- Students: Faculty may include students as co-authors.
- Frequency: No more than once per academic year.
- A maximum of three times within a five-year period.
- The award cannot be granted twice for the same project.
- Timing: Applications are only accepted after the work has passed peer review and been formally accepted for publication.
II. Funding Details
- Amount: Up to $2,000. If costs exceed this amount, the author must secure other funding for the remainder.
- Priority: Preference is given to works published by university presses.
- Usage: Funds must be used within the same academic year they are awarded.
- Covered Expenses:
- Publication subsidies and Open Access fees.
- Professional indexing and editorial work.
- Translations, digital/interactive content, and permissions.
- Visuals: Images, maps, color plates, and cover art.
III. Application Requirements
Applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis starting July 1 until the annual budget is exhausted. You must provide:
- Completed Application form: ARPA Application Form.
- Project Description: A summary of the work.
- Budget Justification: A brief explanation of the expenditure.
- Proof of Acceptance: Peer reviewer comments or an editor’s approval letter.
- Contract: A copy of the book contract (if applicable).
- Invoice: An official statement of publication costs. Acceptable expenses must be from the same fiscal year as the award, i.e., July 1st to June 30th.
IV. Post-Award Expectations
Recipients are expected to make their supported work available to the university community by uploading it to the Digital Commons repository (subject to copyright).
