Cultural Engagement Internships Program

Collage of various aspects of NYC, such as taxis, subways, empire state building, and the statue of liberty

Fulfilling Fordham’s promise that New York is our campus, the Cultural Engagement Internships program provides students with broad and equitable access to paid internship opportunities with non-profit organizations aligned with Fordham’s mission. These internships are designed for, and open exclusively to, Fordham College Rose Hill and Fordham College Lincoln Center students and are supported by the colleges through donations from generous alumni; Fordham-funded internship stipends enable students to avail themselves of these opportunities in place of part-time employment, making a meaningful impact on their professional development, interpersonal growth, and social engagement. Through Cultural Engagement Internships, students gain valuable professional experience, broaden their networks, and put Fordham’s Jesuit mission into action by partnering with our local community in educational, cultural, anti-racist, social justice, and other important endeavors.

Who can apply for these positions?

All currently enrolled Fordham College at Lincoln Center (FCLC) and Fordham College at Rose Hill (FCRH) students are eligible to apply for these positions. Students are expected to be enrolled in Fordham throughout the duration of their internship.

What types of internships are available?

These paid internships are designed exclusively for Fordham students and paid for by Fordham. There are opportunities in the arts and humanities, education, communications, marketing, natural history, and more. Internship opportunities vary in duration, total hours and hours per week, but all Cultural Engagement internships are comparable to part-time employment in expected hours and payment.  Summer internships are often shorter in duration with a greater number of hours per week. Internships can be fully in-person, fully remote, or hybrid. *Please note that these internships are not for course credit.

I am an FCLC/FCRH student looking for a paid internship. How do I find these internship opportunities?

Interested students should log into Handshake (the Office of Career Services’ job and internship database) and filter postings according to the “Cultural Engagement” tag.  This filters and shows only the active paid Cultural Engagement internship postings.

Applications should be submitted directly to partnering organizations via Handshake. (Also take the opportunity to explore Career Services resources and tips for using Handshake here.)

I found a specific internship in which I’m interested! How do I apply and what happens after that?

Note that partnering organizations manage the application and interview process. They call candidates with whom they would like to meet, conduct interviews and select a final candidate. Once this is confirmed by the organization, the student, and Fordham University, the internship can begin. The stipend is distributed directly from Fordham to the student. *Please note that you may only have one internship at a time.

What organizations are part of this program?

Our list of partner organizations is constantly growing, but here is a sample of participating institutions:
