Frequently Asked Questions

When does Gabelli TALK begin for the summer of 2024?

A. The program runs from July 18 to August 9, 2024.

Q: Can I receive academic credit for Gabelli TALK?

A: No. Gabelli TALK is an optional, non-credit, comprehensive American cultural immersion program designed to help students develop stronger communicative competence in the U.S. While in-class instruction is an important part of the Gabelli TALK experience, you will also have the chance to hone your applied cross-cultural communication skills through deep immersion in New York City and American culture.

Q: Is the certificate I receive at the end of Gabelli TALK official?

A: Students who successfully complete Gabelli TALK will receive a certificate of completion. While a certificate of completion does not confer academic credit, or appear on your official Fordham transcript, this is an important achievement you can note on your résumé and discuss in job interviews.

Q: How many hours a day/week are required for participation in Gabelli TALK?

A: Over the course of the Gabelli TALK experience, there are 4 "modules" (Advanced Academic English I and II, Advanced English and the World of Work, Think Globally, Act Locally). Each week (Monday through Friday), students typically attend classes from 9:00 to 12:00 p.m. EDT, and from 1:30 pm to 3:00 p.m.  Additional activities include corporate v, career and visits, leadership workshops, service learning, cultural excursions, and social activities. The finalized schedule will be provided by mid-June.

Q: Am I required to participate in Gabelli TALK?

A: While participation in Gabelli TALK is strongly encouraged, it is an optional, non-credit English language and American culture program. Admitted students who were required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score as part of their application for admission were invited to participate. Students admitted to the International Business Bridge Program (IBB) are ineligible.

Q: What is the difference between Gabelli TALK and other language, culture, and communication courses offered during the year?

A: Gabelli TALK is designed to prepare you for a successful adjustment to the academic, social, and cultural life of a graduate business program anywhere in the U.S. While Gabelli TALK does not waive the language, communication, and culture course requirements for some of the programs, students who participate in Gabelli TALK will be more confident in their skills and more prepared to navigate the challenges of graduate studies, the internship, and the job search.

Q: Is my English ability-level too advanced to participate in Gabelli TALK?

A: There is no minimum or maximum level of English required to participate in Gabelli TALK. The curriculum and activities are designed to be flexible and appropriate for all levels of English.

A: June 13, 2024, is the last day to register. Registration closes at capacity, which may occur before June 12. Since seats are limited, it is important to register as soon as possible.
