AHI Admissions

At Fordham University, we practice the Jesuit principle of Cura Personalis in our admissions process. This means we look at the applicants holistically to make a determination of program suitability. We are interested in applicants that demonstrate curiosity, character, courage, and are mission-driven in their career goals.

  • To attend either the Masters Program or the Advanced Certificate Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Hold a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university that is accredited by a regional accreditation association.  Alternatively, applicants from institutions outside the U.S. must hold the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing. Fordham uses World Education Services (WES) to verify the credentials of international students. A WES evaluation will be required for applicants with credentials from international schools.
    • A G.P.A. of 3.0 or the equivalent.  Applicants who have G.P.A.s that do not meet this requirement should be prepared to discuss why they believe they are prepared to handle the rigor of the AHI Program.
    • Students for whom English is not their first language and who have not received their degree from an institution who's primary language is English will need to demonstrate English proficiency with either a TOFEL score of 100 or above, or alternatively, an IETLS score of 7.0 or higher.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Healthcare Work or Volunteer Experience. The ideal candidate for this program has some general experience in healthcare so they can contextualize how Health Information Systems can meaningfully impact the way that healthcare is delivered.
  • To ensure that we are able to holistically evaluate the candidate's suitability for the AHI program, the following application components are required:

    • Official Transcripts.  AHI requires official transcripts from each candidate sent directly from the issuing college or university.  Transcripts may be emailed to [email protected].  Unofficial transcripts can be used to make a preliminary determination on the application, but official transcripts will be required from the student before beginning their coursework.
    • Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV).  Applicants should submit a resume or CV that details their education, work experience, and any accomplishments of note. Submitted resumes should be in English.
    • Personal Statement. Applicants are required to submit a 500-word essay that describes why they want to attend the AHI program, what their professional goals are, and what is their candidacy's unique value proposition.  Essays should also be written in English.
    • 2 Letters of Recommendation. Applicants are required to name two professional or academic recommenders.  Letters should be signed and on official letterhead, submitted directly be the recommender. One letter should be from your most recent academic institution, unless you have been out of school for more than 5 years. It is not appropriate to submit letters from family, friends, or others who do not know the applicant in an academic or professional capacity. Applications can be submitted even if Fordham is waiting on the recommender's submission.
    • GRE/GMAT/MCAT Scores. If the applicant has two or more years of professional experience, they are eligible to submit a petition by emailing [email protected] to have their test score requirement waived.
    • A $70.00 non-refundable fee. Fees waived in cases of financial hardship. Email [email protected] to request a fee waiver.

  • International applications have a few additional requirements:

    • An academic evaluation done by World Education Services (WES) to verify your bachelor's degree or equivalent credentials. Canadian applicants are exempt from this requirement.
    • For applicants who are not native English speakers, proof of English proficiency via the TOFEL or IETLS.  For the TOFEL, we require a score of 100 or above, and for the IETLS, we require a score of 7.0 or above.  Applicants who live in the New York City area can alternatively take Fordham’s 2.5 hour ESL placement evaluation (FELT) at the Institute of American Language and Culture. Email [email protected] or call +1 212-636-6353 to verify hours of operation and make an appointment. If you received a university degree from an English speaking country, you may apply for an exemption from this by emailing [email protected].

  • Resources for All Students

    Dean's Award

Fordham's School of Professional and Continuing Studies awards a one time, merit-based scholarship of up to $6K toward a student's tuition.  Determinations of merit are based on the program application, and all students who have been accepted into the program are eligible for consideration. The budget for these awards varies from year to year.  If students are interested, we recommend that they complete their applications by May 1st.

Scholarship scams: How to recognize and avoid them.

Unfortunately, scams regarding external scholarships are fairly common.  The Federal Trade Commission has created the following resource to assist students in recognizing and avoiding these scams.

    Resources for Domestic Students

    Scholarships

Scholarships and tuition awards for graduate programs are hard to come by, but there are circumstance-specific opportunities that might apply to an applicant.  Two reputable scholarship search site are:

    • FastWeb: a scholarship matching website where applicants set up profiles and are sent alerts about scholarships that match their selected criteria.
    • Scholarship America: the largest and most experienced provider of private scholarships in the country.  The site allows students to browse scholarship opportunities based on location and availability.

    Loans

Domestic students interested in pursuing a student loan should always begin by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Fordham University's FAFSA code: 002722

Student loans come in 3 varieties:

    • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans (Graduate/Professional Level): This is the primary loan offered by the U.S. Department of Education to each graduate, law and medical student who applies for financial aid. The Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan is available to all students who are matriculated in a degree granting program, have filed and met the FAFSA eligibility criteria and meet enrollment requirements. This loan does not require a credit check or a certain level of income to be approved.
    • Federal Direct PLUS Loans: This loan is available to all students who are matriculated in a degree-granting program, have filed and met the FAFSA eligibility criteria and meet enrollment requirements. This loan requires a credit check to determine credit worthiness.
    • Private Student Loans: Private Loans are available to graduate students when federal loans are not enough to cover the cost of attendance or for students that do not qualify for any federal loans. This includes students who are enrolled less than part-time. We strongly encourage students to exhaust their Federal Direct loan option prior to considering these loans. Some of these loans offer rates specifically for students training in the Healthcare sector.

    Resources for International Students

    Scholarships

While some of our students enter our program through our NGO sponsors, AHI does not currently have scholarship opportunities specifically for international students. For students interested in pursuing a scholarship opportunity, EduPass provides a list of competitive scholarships for international students who meet the award's criteria.

    Loans

The best place to look for student loan opportunities for study abroad programs is within your home country.  If no borrowing opportunities exist, there are private lenders who offer loans to international students.  Many of these lenders require a cosigner based in the United States.

    Resources for Veterans

Fordham University's student chapter of the Veteran Students of America is consistently ranked in the top 10 in the United States.  Military Times ranks Fordham University as the 4th "Best for Vets" College in New York State.  As an active duty service member, a veteran, or an eligible dependent, you may qualify for veteran benefits.  More information can be found via our Office for Student Veterans website.
