As artificial intelligence revolutionizes the ways we live and work, its environmental impacts are coming under increased scrutiny. This discussion takes up one of the key questions of our time: is there such a thing as “sustainable” AI use? Our speakers will approach this question from a variety of angles, considering if – and how – using AI constitutes “good business” when it comes to preserving the future of our planet.

10:15 - 10:45 AM ~ Fireside: Natural Capital & Stewardship in Business
The Intrinsic Exchange Group (IEG) is at the forefront of “nature-positive investment.” Guided by their commitment to stewardship and regeneration, IEG has developed a new business model geared for the shift to a nature-based economy: the Natural Asset Company (NAC). In this fireside chat, Olivia Vitali, IEG’s Managing Director for Strategic Growth, will speak with Leigh Anne Statuto, Executive Director of Fordham’s Responsible Business Center, about how treating nature as an asset is good business. They will also highlight the work being done at Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business in developing natural capital accounting principles.

11:00 - 11:45 AM ~ Discussion: How will you support the younger generation?
Young people are the future: they always have been and they always will be. But the shape of that future is rapidly changing, and it is more difficult than ever to know how to implement our shared commitment to preparing young people for the challenge of “good business.” In this discussion, we will hear from industry leaders about what skills young people entering the workforce need and, crucially, how they work to develop those skills in young people. We will also hear from our students about how best we can support them for what lies ahead.
Break (15 minutes)
12:00 - 1:00 PM ~ Lunch and Learn: What is the Future of Good Business?
This interactive concluding session will bring participants into dialogue with one another and with session leaders Elizabeth Ostler, Assistant Dean for Student Engagement at the Gabelli School of Business and Ergem Şenyuva Tohumcu, Head of Experiential Learning at Fordham London. By surveying different trends in good business, everyone will be encouraged to review the themes that have emerged over the course of the day and reflect on what is most achievable for them in their workplaces.
