Course Overview

Learn from Top Gabelli School Faculty

From the onset, you will hit the ground running with classes taught by many of the Gabelli School’s top faculty members. Classes will be held virtually but will be highly participatory, with integrated curriculum, so that each class and session builds on the last and directly supports the development of the capstone project as well as your own personal career progression.

Core Subjects

  • Learn to communicate with colleagues, clients, and others in a way that allows you to achieve your business goals.

  • Understand the investment and financing decisions of business firms and nonprofit organizations. Emphasize the development of analytical techniques and build an understanding of how the economic environment influences day-to-day and long-term financial decisions.

  • Learn the accounting cycle and accounting terminology, and master the major recognition, measurement and disclosure principles that serve as the foundation for financial accounting. In addition, learn the basics of analyzing financial statements for decision making.

  • Gain an understanding of the forces that push, pull, and shape the economies of the United States and other nations.

  • Learn about consumer behavior, market research, advertising and marketing strategy to help you make smart business decisions.

  • Develop (using Excel) the type of financial models that businesses use every day to analyze a wide range of financial problems and make decisions.

Additional Subjects

  • Stimulate critical thinking and ethical argumentation on contemporary ethical issues and professional challenges encountered in commercial activity.

  • Learn how businesses can generate social and environmental impact, besides being financially sustainable.

  • Organizations are complex systems. Different theories of designing structure and processes are presented, along with the elements of the global competitive environment that impact organizations.

  • Many current management paradigms have to be rethought and remodeled to deal with challenges effectively. Look at challenges to organizations on the systemic level (environmental and social pressures), the organizational level (employee commitment and stakeholder trust), and the individual level (happiness) and examine ways of dealing with them proactively.

Introductory Statistics (3 credits)

Statistical analysis is vital and everywhere. Facts and figures can be found throughout all areas of society. It is essential to learn how statistics are generated and what the data mean. This is true from quantitative researchers to consumers. In introductory statistics, students learn the underlying theory of statistics, hypothesis testing, z-tests and t-tests, ANOVA, linear regression, and other methods. You will learn how to execute these statistical functions and use data from existing sources to develop their ability to engage with and critique statistical data. The class examines data from many different sources.  Students develop an understanding of how statistics are used on a daily basis to regulate and guide our decisions. This course satisfies application requirements for a master’s degree at the Gabelli School by awarding three applicable and transferrable credits.

Group Project

As a student of the Gabelli Business Bridge, you will leverage your learning, and work with your team to analyze a business case study. This work will give you a demonstrable example of your business skills that you have learned throughout the program. At the end of the program, you will also have hands-on experience delivering a business presentation to your colleagues. Students will be guided throughout the process.

Course Format

This program utilizes a virtual format. You will be instructed by live faculty, and you will be able to ask questions and participate in classes along with your peers. You will also have the opportunity to engage with faculty during virtual live office hours throughout the program.
