Accelerated Masters of Arts in History

Under this program, eligible Lincoln Center or Rose Hill History majors can complete a BA and an MA in History in five years total.

Who is eligible? Outstanding History students with a grade point average of 3.2 (B+) or above. Students from both campuses may apply although all classes are offered at Rose Hill. Students apply for the program in the spring semester of their Junior year.

How does it work? When they enter the program in their Senior year, students take two graduate courses. These courses count towards both the BA in History, and are accepted for the MA in History.

Are there concentrations? The History Department offers the MA in medieval, modern European, American, Latin American and Latino, gender, and global history. There is also the option of an MA without concentration.

Application Requirements: 

  • Application: all of our applications are done online at the website of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS). Visit their website to begin yours today.
  • Documents needed:
    • Statement of Intent: maximum 500 words (two typed pages). Please place your name on all pages.
    • Resume/CV.
    • Writing Sample: 5 - 7 pages.
    • Two Letters of Recommendation. Make sure to register the names and email addresses of your recommenders as soon as you begin your application.
    • Official Fordham Transcript. These may be requested from Enrollment Services, Thebaud Hall. You may also request an official transcript be sent by logging onto my.fordham.edu and following the instructions listed here. Please have this sent to us as soon as possible.
  • Students submit their applications in the spring semester of their junior year.

Advantages of Applying through Early Admission include:

  • The $70 application fee and the GRE are waived.
  • GSAS courses taken senior year count for both your Bachelors and Masters.
  • GSAS courses taken senior year are part of your undergraduate tuition, reducing the cost of your total graduate tuition.
