Linguistics is especially well suited to fields like anthropology, biology, business, computer science, education, languages and literatures, neuroscience, psychology, and sociology—any of which will help you stand out in your chosen field.

You can take a variety of courses to meet your six class requirement for the minor. You might take Sociolinguistics, which examines how language and language use are shaped by social and cultural contexts, Psycholinguistics, an introduction to the psychology of language, or Language Endangerment, which explores language loss and efforts to revitalize endangered languages.

Under the guidance of faculty mentors, you’ll be able to take part in various undergraduate research opportunities and share your work through the Fordham Undergraduate Research Journal and the annual ARS Nova Arts & Research Showcase.

At Fordham, you’ll use AI as a tool to enhance your learning. Our program will equip you with the skills to navigate the ever-changing landscape of AI in the workforce. As a linguistics major, you’ll be able to use AI to advance your own research by analyzing large sets of data and analyzing how large language models are affecting language learning and processing, preparing you for high-growth roles in areas like linguistic data analysis.

You’ll also be able to earn credentials and paid micro-internships through IBM SkillsBuild’s Getting Started with AI course. All Fordham students and graduates have access to AI training through RamConnect, the University’s alumni and experiential learning platform.
