Student Handbook: Notification to Parents or Guardians of Dependent Students

If a student who is alleged to have violated the Code of Conduct is claimed as a dependent and depending on the totality of the circumstances, the University reserves the right to inform a student's parents/guardians/emergency contact(s) of the alleged violations, the pending student system process/conduct hearing, and subsequent student conduct decisions concerning the student. A student will be considered a dependent unless they establish proof to the contrary to the Dean of Students.

In addition, and in compliance with New York Education Law § 6438-D, also known as "Beau's Law", the University reserves the right to inform a student’s parents/guardians/emergency contact(s) and to share information on the alleged violation(s), the pending student conduct system process/hearing, and subsequent student conduct decisions in cases in which a student who is alleged to have violated the Code of Conduct or who is rendered aid or hospitalized after an alcohol or other substance misuse-related incident and is claimed as a dependent.

A student will be considered a dependent unless they present proof to the contrary to the Dean of Students.
